What You Will Actually Study
Course-specific knowledge
Legal and compliance work begins by identifying the governing jurisdiction, source of authority and exact obligation; similar words can have different legal effects in different systems. A contract should clearly identify parties, subject matter, responsibilities, timing, payment or consideration where applicable, change mechanisms, termination, dispute process and records, while enforceability depends on local law. Compliance programs translate laws, regulations and internal standards into policies, controls, training, monitoring and escalation. AML/KYC work uses risk-based customer identification, beneficial-ownership checks, transaction monitoring and escalation of unusual activity according to applicable rules; sanctions screening compares relevant parties against applicable lists. Privacy practice limits collection to legitimate purposes, controls access, protects retention and disposal and responds to rights or incidents under the relevant regime. Governance defines decision rights, oversight, conflicts of interest, accountability and evidence. Legal/compliance training is not a substitute for jurisdiction-specific legal advice.
Applied professional task
Choose one compliance scenario. Identify the jurisdiction and obligation, affected parties, required records, preventive and detective controls, one escalation trigger, one privacy or conflict-of-interest issue and where qualified legal advice would be required.

The learner then selects a realistic use case for Board Governance Foundations, writes a one-sentence goal, identifies required information and resources, chooses an approach and creates a five-step action plan.
Practice task: Choose a work scenario, separate facts from assumptions, write five action steps and define two pieces of evidence that would demonstrate quality.
Knowledge check: What should be verified before action? Why is the chosen method appropriate? What evidence shows the result is accurate, useful and ethical?
